The world had pretty much ended. Humans all over the world were dieing in their sleep for no apparent reason. I thought I was all alone, but ended up finding an elderly man struggling to repair damage to his house. The house strangely felt familiar to me even though I had never been there before. This man was the first person I had seen in years so I walked up to him to try and help him. He was not happy that I was on his property but gave into my offer of help. Once finished he offered me some water inside the house. I went in and took a seat. We both told our stories of how we were surviving with civilization on the brink of extinction. He became more relaxed and we told our life stories to eachother. We ended up becoming good friends over the next few months as he let me stay with him as long as I would keep helping to repair the home. Our relationship felt more like a grandfather and grandson type of relationship. It just seemed natural. After some time the old man became sick and I could not help him. He slowly passed away in front of me in his bed. I felt completely crushed when he passed away. It felt like I lost an actual member of my family that I had known my whole life. I was now completely alone once again. I went out back and buried the old man and placed some wild flowers on his grave. I went back in the house and gathered what I could cary and began walking away.
This dream may symbolize feelings of isolation, finding unexpected connections, and the transient nature of relationships. The world ending and people dying in their sleep could represent a sense of loss or disconnection from the outside world. Coming across the elderly man and feeling a strange familiarity with his house could indicate a longing for companionship and a sense of belonging.
The man's initial reluctance to accept help could signify the challenges in forming new relationships, but his eventual acceptance suggests that connection and support can be found even in the most unlikely circumstances. The bond that forms between you and the elderly man, akin to that of a grandfather and grandson, highlights the deep emotional connection and sense of family that develops over time.
The old man's illness and passing may represent the impermanence of human connections, reminding you of the ephemerality of relationships and the pain that comes with loss. The crushing feeling of grief illustrates the profound impact he had on your life and the emptiness that follows his death, similar to losing a loved one you have known for a long time.
Finally, burying the old man and gathering your belongings symbolize the need to move on and carry on with life despite the loss. It suggests resilience, adaptability, and the continuation of the journey despite the challenges and sense of solitude.
Overall, this dream may reflect a desire for connection and a reminder of the importance of relationships in our lives, even amidst difficult circumstances.
